Hormonal imbalance
Hormones are important not only for the female cycle, but for the entire metabolism. But what happens when hormones are no longer in balance? How does a hormonal imbalance manifest itself? Learn more.
What is a hormonal imbalance?
Which hormones are important in the female body?
Women's organs produce approx. 50 different hormones, which in turn create new hormone variants. In addition to the ovaries, the brain also plays an important role in the production of hormones. The pituitary gland produces the hormones STH (growth hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and oxytocin. The pituitary gland is a hormone gland in the diencephalon that is controlled by the hypothalamus. The pancreas produces insulin, while the thyroid produces triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and calcitonin. The adrenal glands are the source of the stress hormones cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine, as well as dopamine. Serotonin is produced in the gut. We also know it by the term "happiness hormone." These hormones are particularly important for the female hormonal balance.
Estrogen
Progesterone
Testosterone
Oxytocin
Oxytocin is also known as the cuddle hormone. It is produced in the hypothalamus and is released during activities such as intercourse or breastfeeding. This strengthens the desire for bonding. This is because the hormone actually serves the purpose of reproduction. We, however, equate it with trust and security. The same process also occurs during breastfeeding.

Causes: Where do hormonal disorders come from?
Synthetic hormones and medication
Taking synthetic hormones shuts down your body's own hormone production. Taking the pill can have the following effects, among others:
- Skin problems
- Spotting
- Irregular menstrual cycle
- Mood swings
- States of exhaustion
Environmental influences
Poor diet and nutrient deficiencies
A one-sided diet that contains few micro- and macronutrients inevitably leads to nutrient deficiencies. Nutrients and vitamins are essential for your body to carry out important functions such as metabolic processes, hormone production, and regulation. These nutrients are particularly important for your hormonal balance:
- Zinc contributes to a normal metabolism of macronutrients, to normal fertility, and to normal reproduction.
- Iodine contributes to normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.
- Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system. It is a hormone precursor and can only be produced by the body with the help of sunlight. A vitamin D deficiency is therefore often common in winter. Vitamin D has a significant influence on the thyroid hormone thyroxine.
- Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity and to normal energy metabolism.
- Selenium contributes to normal thyroid function and to the normal function of the immune system.
- Other nutrients that significantly influence thyroid function and other hormonal processes are calcium, iron, magnesium, and vitamin A.
In keeping with the topic of women's health, we have developed FemFit – by women for women. The formula combines selected plant-based ingredients such as chaste tree, yarrow, and lady's mantle with vitamin B6, which contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity. FemFit is vegan and suitable for a low-histamine, low-fructose, gluten-free, and lactose-free diet.

Natural tips for a hormonal balance
Exercise
Balanced diet
As already mentioned, the entire hormonal system does not work without sufficient nutrients. It is therefore important that you consume enough nutrients through your diet and provide your body, especially your gut, with diverse foods. You can support your hormonal balance with plant-based hormones, which are very similar to female hormones. These include, for example, the following low-histamine foods:
- Oats
- Amaranth
- Pistachios
- Flaxseed
- Sesame
- Almonds
- Lady's mantle
- Yarrow
- Chaste tree
- Sage
- Evening primrose
- Garlic
- Blackberries
- Dates
- Apricots
- Pomegranate
- Coconut
- Sour cherries
- Carrots
- Cucumbers
- Celery
- Pumpkin
- Potatoes
Some of the foods mentioned here can also be found in our Organic Grain Bread. The organic baking mix combines gluten-free whole oat flour and whole oat flakes with selected seeds such as pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. Supplemented with psyllium husks and sea salt, it is very easy to create a juicy, nutty bread with 13 g of fiber per 100 g. It is vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free, as well as suitable for a low-histamine and low-fructose diet.
