Why does organic protein powder contain histidine?

Histidine is an essential amino acid and a natural component of almost all complete protein sources – both plant-based and animal-based. Therefore, histidine is also contained in our protein.

In our protein, histidine makes up only a relatively small proportion of the total amino acid profile, at 1.67%. Glutamic acid, arginine, or branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), for example, are much more highly represented.

Although the body can form histamine from histidine, this only happens within the framework of regulated metabolic processes. Whether and to what extent histamine is formed depends on many factors – including the activity of the enzyme histidine decarboxylase, inflammatory processes, mast cell activity, and individual metabolism. The mere presence of histidine therefore does not mean that a protein powder has a high histamine content or automatically increases the histamine load.

For one serving, mix approximately 30 g of powder (2 heaped tablespoons) with 200 - 500 ml of milk, plant milk or water in a shaker or mixer.
