Turmeric and curcumin: The power root

Turmeric originates from Southeast Asia and India. It belongs to the ginger family and is obtained from the Curcuma longa root. Due to its yellowish color, turmeric is also called yellow root, yellow ginger, or saffron root. Thanks to the curcuminoids it contains, the yellow root gives the spice blend curry its typical yellow coloring.

Turmeric use: What is turmeric good for?

Turmeric is available as a powder or in capsule form. The phytochemical curcumin is the most important component of the yellow spice, to which many positive properties are attributed.

Our KumaFit contains 300 mg of turmeric powder and around 189.5 mg of high-quality turmeric extract, 180 mg of which is curcumin. In addition, the dietary supplement contains about 142 mg of quercetin, a phytochemical that can increase the bioavailability of turmeric and is used against oxidative stress.

Turmeric recipes

Turmeric can be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. For preparing meals and drinks, the use of turmeric powder or freshly grated turmeric root is recommended. The spicy, slightly bitter, minimally pungent, and simultaneously sweet root can be enjoyed in the form of drinks, for example, as turmeric milk or a ginger turmeric shot, among other things.

Turmeric milk

For a turmeric milk, also known as turmeric latte or golden milk, the following foods go into the blender:

  • 300 ml plant-based milk (1)
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 piece of ginger
  • ½ tsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp agave syrup or dates for sweetening

Ginger turmeric shot

A ginger turmeric shot can also be prepared to be low-histamine, for example with these ingredients:

  • 3 raw broccoli florets
  • 3 fresh peppermint leaves
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp psyllium husks
  • 1 tsp spirulina powder
  • 1 small piece of ginger (1)
  • a few leaves of lamb's lettuce
  • 100 ml water
  • 2 apples

Would you like to integrate turmeric into your low-histamine everyday life even more easily? In our organic smoothie powder, turmeric meets other selected plant-based ingredients such as broccoli, barley grass, moringa, wild blueberry, and spirulina. Simply mix with water or your favorite drink and you have a plant-based organic drink for your everyday life in no time at all.
