Hista-Me-Time

We spend most of the day dealing with tasks – household chores, grocery shopping, work, etc. All of this is important, but there is one thing you must not forget in the process: yourself! That is why me-time is essential.

What is me-time and why should I do it?

Me-time is a modern term for the fact that you should take time for yourself. There are many different ways to relax during me-time – this can also have a very positive effect on histamine intolerance. For this reason, you will find ideas and descriptions for your individual Hista-me-time in this blog article. Perhaps you will even create your own routine in which you integrate me-time tools.

How can I do something good for my body?

Drinking still, low-sulfate water

The best time to do this is right after getting up. It works well if you place a glass of still water next to your bed beforehand. This point is very well suited for a routine. Always remember: histamine is water-soluble!

Oil pulling in the morning (before the still water)

Oil pulling detoxifies the body. In the morning, before brushing your teeth, you pull the oil through your mouth and between your teeth. Start with a teaspoon of oil. After 10 to 20 minutes, you can spit the oil out—ideally into a tissue, which then goes into the household trash. Afterward, rinse your mouth with warm water and brush your teeth.

Toxins and bacteria collect during oil pulling. If the oil starts to taste strange or foam up, you should spit it out and, if necessary, take another teaspoon. It is possible that a large number of toxins will accumulate in the oil in a short amount of time, and you don’t want the oral mucosa to reabsorb the bacteria.

Which oil can you use for oil pulling?
You can use special pulling oils or high-quality, cold-pressed sesame oil (as used in Ayurvedic practices), olive oil, rapeseed oil, linseed oil, or native coconut oil.

Meditation

Meditating relaxes your entire body and can even act to lower histamine levels. It makes your body more alert, your mind more centered, and helps you think more positively. There is no right or wrong; just focus on yourself.

Create a cozy atmosphere where you feel comfortable, perhaps light a candle, straighten your spine, let yourself go, and close your eyes – change your mindset. You can either enjoy the silence or listen to relaxing music or a meditation audio. Just 5–10 minutes can be enough to bring your body into a state of relaxation and lower your histamine levels.

Yoga by the water

Breathing exercises

To supply your cells with energy and relax, breathe in and out consciously. This increases your concentration and reduces your inner tension. Through calm and full inhalation, your parasympathetic nervous system (the body's brake pedal) is activated, allowing your body to switch into relaxation mode in no time at all.

Positive affirmations

Help your cells regenerate and promote your health through positive affirmations. This happens through neural pathways. This practice is great for building a habit.

Speak positively formulated sentences to yourself, repeat them, and let the negative anchors disappear. For example, transform the thought

“I don’t want to be sick.”

into

“I am healthy.”

Walking in nature

Walks in nature make you happy, keep you fit and healthy, and help us relax. Here, you can decide for yourself how you want to design your walk—do you want to walk in complete silence and let nature have its effect on you? Or would you like to listen to your favorite songs and simply enjoy the fresh air? There are no limits to your preferences here; enjoy your Hista-me-time mindfully!

Drinking low-histamine tea

It sounds simple, but it should not be underestimated: consciously holding a warm, fragrant tea in your hands is relaxing, and on the other hand, certain types of tea can lower histamine and/or stabilize mast cells.

Low-histamine tea varieties include, for example: chamomile tea, peppermint tea, tulsi tea, hibiscus tea, ...

Gratitude exercises

You can take a few minutes each day to reflect on yourself and your day.

  • What are you grateful for today?
  • What did you do well, and what are you proud of?
  • What made you smile today?

This can be done very easily in a corner of your planner, in the notes app on your phone, or in a special gratitude or happiness journal. The main thing is that you take the time for yourself and perceive or reflect on your day.

Sufficient sleep

This point also sounds banal, but it is so important! Sleep has a positive effect on your histamine levels as well as your immune system.

Think consciously about what you value in the evening and what is important to you at night. Can you perhaps do without one thing and go to bed earlier instead? Don’t put yourself under pressure; just become aware of what you and your body need more of right now.
